One day last week I woke up with a ton of things on my mind…things that needed to be done, things that stressed me out, people I loved… so much. I started my prayer that morning feeling so overwhelmed. Wondering if it was even possible to go an entire day without one negative thing happening. Have you ever felt that way?
As always, God heard my prayer and he reminded me of John 16:33. ” I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world.” Whoah!! This wasn’t the news I was expecting…I was hoping for a switch to flip and God magically make my life “perfect”. But in a weird way, I was comforted by this scripture. I now expect the hard times and the trials and instead of looking for a way around them, I am OK with them because Jesus has overcome the world. This is great news because Jesus lives inside of me!!!
It’s like when you have to take a really hard test, but instead of relying only on your knowledge, you have this upperclassman who has already taken the exam right there to help you. With this person by your side, your confidence for the test is high because you know you have someone there to help you through it. They have already passed this test and made it to the next level. That is exactly who Jesus is for us on this earth. There isn’t a problem we have that he hasn’t already encountered. So instead of us getting worried or stressed as an immediate response to the conflict in our lives, let’s take heart and put our hope in Jesus. He’s got this and he’s got us.
